Given the long iteration times between releases, I think it would be good to have a stable branch corresponding to the latest release, and a dev branch for the next one. This would also simplify releasing, as we could automatically release from the github actions run on main.
[x] delete master branch
[x] rename mw_image to main and protect
[x] set main as primary branch
[x] create dev branch
[ ] modify github actions to release on main-push, while dev should (for now) only be built on manual trigger
