Portability fixes as per ADB's findings thus far.

Will merge when the trail goes cold.

I have added a few commits to address Composer and OSFixes issues Identified by @DrongoTheDog

When merged, push development to the shared drive and let @DrongoTheDog know, so he can work on optionally disabling validation and investigating memory issues. Paging @heliosfa as well in case I forget for whatever reason (it has been known to happen!).
