Jak 2 - Black screen when applying widescreen code after intro #11

I tried the code without using GSM enabled and I got a black screen after the intro finishes. With GSM enabled the game black screens after seeing 2 screens and that's it. Model is PS2 90k.

OPL version?

OPL 1.2 beta 1920 version (also tried a version a bit before that too). I know there are multiple versions of Jak 2 so maybe it expects a specific one? dunno.
