Translations Needed!

New Feature

We need translations for the launcher/recovery menus. The format of the translation files is JSON.

You can find an example of a translation file here: https://github.com/PSP-Archive/ARK-4/blob/main/extras/menus/arkMenu/themes/translations/resources/lang_es.json

When translating, please follow these guidelines:

• Be very careful of format strings (strings containing %s, %d, etc). Make sure to preserve the order of these format specifiers.
• After uploading your translation, we will make a build to allow you to use it. Please test the translation to make sure everything is correct.

For now we have these languages:

• Spanish.
• Portuguese.
• French.
• Italian.
• Latin (because why not).
• Dutch.
• German.
• Russian.
• Korean.

For the launcher/recovery we are not tied to the system language, however we are tied to the Fonts used by the PSP system. Meaning for languages that aren't supported, a new font file must be generated (there are tools online to convert TTF fonts to PFG format).

We're also gonna need a PFG font file with Thai alphabet since the PSP doesn't have any built into it. There are tools to convert TTF fonts to PGF, we'll need to investigate that route.

Got you a Dutch one too:

Not 100% sure about Disabled/Enabled. I've used Uit/Aan which would translate to Off/On, hopefully that's ok. Another one could be Inactief/Actief which translate to Inactive/Active. The proper translation for Disabled/Enabled would be Uitgeschakeld/Ingeschakeld, but to me using it feels a bit weird.

Maybe another Dutch speaker can give his opinion ?

@IllaKilla13 unfortunately the PSP system fonts don't support the Greek alphabet. We are looking at a way around this and have our own custom fonts so we can have more languages.

@ca1e it works but some letters aren't displayed. It baffles me because CHS is a language supported natively by the PSP and we didn't have any issue with the XMB translations. Perhaps there is an issue in the font library, we will have to investigate this.

I doubt that the font format is PGF (PSP font format), it's probably TTF which is more universal, Ill check it out anyways. It should be technically possible to create PGF font for other languages, will just require some more development.

Or more simple if it works, convert in pgf and rename the Arial Greek Regular to Greek.pgf and see if it work

Yes that is completely possible to do with one of the fonts I tried. I got rid of it though so I have to make it again (simple and fast), meanwhile you can create that "translation" (Greek in latin). Let me know when ready and I'll make build it.

Yeah, exactly and when i rename the music folder in root folder not show up, but when i create a folder with greek letters inside in the music folder is work. Root folder H:\Music\Μουσικη and is work, i think only work with subfolder with pluing categories_lite-1.5-r4

Categories lite does not draw text itself, it uses the XMB's own text drawing. We use intraFont library in the launcher which lets us use the PSP's system font so we can draw the same text as the XMB. Technically if the XMB can draw Greek character we should too.

@VisionR1 I can't seem to be able to get it working using normal Greek letters, I guess for now lets use latinoellinika writing for now. I already have a font ready that displays latin characters as greek, so with a greek translation written using latin it should look good. I will keep your original full-greek translation around, in case I can figure it out.

There are still some things that need to be improved. I used 'o' to replace 'ω` but I found out you can use 'w' to represent it, the same for 'η' (I used 'i' but I think you can use 'v' to represent it). There's probably others too, it's just a matter of trying to match latin letters to their greek counterpart as the font file does. Other letters I've replaced with similar ones are 'θ' with 'z' (which get's drawn as 'ζ' instead), it's a matter of finding out which latin character will draw a 'θ', there might be other letters like that. Feel free to help me out with this improvements.

The only disadvantage to this is that because we're basically using the latin alphabet with a font that makes it look greek, this means that all text will be shown in greek letters, including names of files and folders and english words.

It's not perfect but it looks good and works fine.

I also saw some spelling mistakes like Apenergomoiisi which should be Apenergopoiisi or even better Apenergopoihsh I can make those changes for you if you want

Yeah, the right is Apenergopoihsh and for the setting is Ruqmiseij to show it Ρυθμισεις because of this

If that's an issue then maybe it'd be a good idea to make the Greeklish translation (with actual Latin chars) completely separated and use it as a placeholder till the Greek character/font support is finalized? Or keep both idk your call
