Workflow query re adding urls to records #249

Hi Just thinking about how we are going to add urls to scanned papers and wanted to check the workflow with you.

Assuming for the moment that we don’t subscribe to Rebus:scan….

We want to add an article or book chapter to a reading list then link it to a scanned copy hosted on the CLA’s Digital Content Store

1) If we select an article/chapter using our EBSCO connector the url pulled through into the list will be for the EBSCO record – currently I don’t think it’s possible for us to change this, is that correct? 2) If 1) is true, then we would need to add the material manually to the reading list, and this way would be able to add the DCS url 3) If we needed to add the same scanned material to a different reading list we need to generate another unique url from the DCS, so would we then need to create another record manually?

We have an increasing number of instances where different courses share a seminar so need to access the same papers, but to comply with the CLA we need to give each course a unique url to the paper. Is manually creating a record for each instance the only way to achieve this or am I missing something?

Thanks Helen

At the moment, manually creating a material per list is indeed the only way :(.

I'm not sure how we can ever get around this to be honest. Given they have a unique URL, the system will see them as entirely different items, and thus they will need their own clone.

Thanks Martin, thought that might be the case!

@velvetanchovy are you aware at all of this restriction in your dealings with the CLA DCS offerings.. having to create a different URL for every use of a material may need considerable thought on our end :(
