Cloning/Rollover/Moving lists - return to editing point rather than reset hierarchy #323

When you make any site wide changes to the hierarchy such as moving/cloning/rollover you are returned to the main hierarchy page with the hierarchy collapsed, I've discovered that this can be quite frustrating if you want to move/clone several lists or units!

For example https://www.screencast.com/t/vH8FpYrT0ITr In this instance I wanted to clone the Year 1 and Year 2 units from the London site to both Leeds and Manchester, which meant I would have to repeat the same actions 3 more times.

Thinking back on it now I could probably have cloned the whole London unit twice and renamed them, but that still would have involved a fair amount of finding and expanding units, then finding them again to rename them.

Would it be possible to return to the same point where you had made the change? If you had finished you could just click on one of the main menu icons to carry on with the next task, but if you wanted to make more changes to the hierarchy you could carry from where you were.

We duplicate quite a lot of our lists as modules are increasing taught across different courses and different locations, but sharing the same list isn't always appropriate/manageable within the hierarchy so we'll be using the clone feature a lot.

Best wishes Helen

Hi Helen

Thanks for this. I can see how this would be a problem. I'll investigate what we can do to keep the hierarchy open in it's previous state after it refreshes and update here once I've some more info.

Many thanks Andrew

Thanks Andrew, it would be great if it could be kept open – as well as the time it takes to navigate back to the same point I think there’s also a much stronger chance that you’ll make an error, and move the wrong unit, or move a unit to the wrong place (both of which I’ve done!) Helen

Hi Andrew - I've spent a while working on our hierarchy over the past couple of days and was really pleased to see this working, it's made such a difference, thanks! Helen

Hi Helen

I'm surprised you were finding this was happening as the work to make it happen has not yet taken place. Were you receiving notifications of the changes you made being saved and have the changes you made to the hierarchy been preserved?

Many thanks Andrew

Hi Andrew, it definitely works for moving lists, but haven't really tried for anything else.

I didn't get a notification, but came across it when I was working on the hierarchy

bw?

Hi Helen

OK, I'll do some testing at this end to try and determine why it's working, it shouldn't be!

Many thanks for the info.

Andrew
