Hi Janet,
This issue currently needs some work on the Koha API side:
- getMyTransactions: works, but currently does not return an API based 'renewable' token. If API were able to return this then we'd have a neat advance notice of whether renewal will succeed.
The above would not indicate the reason for failure to renew — but it would at least indicate whether the item is renewable or not.
Actually, in both this and the other renewal notify issue, I think it might be possible to add an arbitrary message on the Vufind side if we can get a code or message from Koha.
I've copied Martin into this update too so he can mull things over or add comments.

After renewing 3 times page indicates "This item could not be renewed".
However visiting the page first time the page does not indicate "This item could not be renewed" - this only shows after the transaction to renew has failed.
