I'm using the Sgen solver code from samsim in a comparison test of Sgen solvers, so I'm looking for the proper citation. Based on the github contribution plots I'm using Freshwater, Holt, Holt, and Wor (2021) for now, but would like to clarify before the working paper goes to CSAS in late Feb/Early March.

I believe this formulation was originally published in Holt et al. 2018, which in turn was based on Holt et al. 2009. @carrieholt can speak better to this than me, but she is likely on leave until the New Year.

Yes, it's the same formulation at Holt et al. 2018.

Awesome, thank you for the rapid response. I'll use that citation. Happy holidays!

This is going into a short appendix. Here's what the Sgen intro text now says:

We implemented four alternative Sgen calculation approaches as part of the RapidRicker package
(Pestal et al. 2020), including three versions of optimization code (Holt and Ogden 2013;
Holt et al. 2018; Connors et al. 2022 ) and a brute force calculation of the smallest spawner
abundance for which Rec ≥ Spn for the input parameter set of [ln.a, b]. Note that the Holt et
 al. (2018) version has been incorporated in the the samSim package (https://github.com/
Pacific-salmon-assess/samSim) and we label that option samSim in the RapidRicker func424
tions.

I'm waiting on some feedback, but once it settles down, I will provide the whole appendix to you to verify whether al the code is properly characterized.

Spoiler: they all give basically the same result
