SUGGESTION: Single player campaign #163

This one is a bit of a longshot, but I feel like the one thing that's missing WoP to help retain a more solid audience in MP is a short single player campaign to better introduce people to the gameplay style.

WoP is a colorful, beautiful and highly polished game that's perfect for young children by design. However, given its multiplayer focus and old school fast-paced gameplay, a more polished single player introduction to the game would perhaps be nice to have, other than just playing with bots.

Having a base single player mode would also encourage more people to create other single player missions, much like it still happens with Doom or the original Quake. Current multiplayer maps could be adapted and redesigned for this purpose too. Although it would without a doubt be a lot of work, I think WoP along with its great arsenal of weapons and great cast of characters would shine wonderfully on singleplayer. So please consider this in the long run!

Before WoP 1.5 was released, it was actually planned to release WoP in version 2.0 with a single player mode. In the 3 years of development after WoP 1.2, the team was not able to finish the singleplayer. After a lot of discussions and back and forth we decided to cancel WoP 2.0 incl. singleplayer and release it as WoP 1.5 with the multiplayer features finished by then. So it is rather unlikely that a singleplayer will be developed future. Attached is a video of the singleplayer launch level at that time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wEu9zAt4sM

Ah I see, I was unaware it was actually part of the plans in the past. Shame it was cancelled in the meantime!

I would ask you to still reconsider this for the future since I do still think it's worthwhile and would help with retaining a larger community. Another reason for it is because a single player mode would make WoP an attractive game to port and play in one of the many Linux retro game handhelds available today.

If necessary perhaps even a small funding campaign could be raised to compensate the effort. I wouldn't mind donating something to see it happen.

Thank you for your reply!
