A big problem with v3 was that people came and went too often. On the Technic Platform, the majority of users treat a pack as something they have to "work through" until they've completed everything and once they have, they move on to a new pack altogether - this is great if you manage a massive "kitchen sink modpack" that adds just about anything and everything, but for more focused packs like CraftMine, it can be a real problem.
This issue has been made in hope to address the issue of people "working through" CraftMine without adding mods that just add more content or make the pack less focused on its vision of being the future of Minecraft.
The idea is to make the easy gameplay aspects of the game much more challenging, by adding new mechanics and changing existing ones so that what once wasn't anything to worry about at all, can now be risky. This includes:
Mining (apart from the occasional mob or so, it's pretty damn safe - especially when you place torches everywhere like most do)
Mobs (too easy to survive, flee from or kill mobs - even when there's 6 of them surrounding you!)
Hunger (seems to be more like a distraction than a mechanic for most - just take 8 steaks with you and you can last at least a few real life hours)
The mobs part has already been accomplished with the new Mob AI in v4, and hunger partially through the fact that you keep your hunger level on death - thus preventing you from cheating hunger. But Mining and Hunger could still be made much more challenging but still fun...
I suggest the following mods for helping with this issue... we could easily configure them with lots of options and possibly modify the mods a bit:
