Before I can start programming and all, I need to know the roles that will be in the game. (Also because they shape the actual gameplay, which isn't finished at all.)
For "simple" games, I think 4 roles are plenty: Captain, First Mate, Engineer and Merchant.
For "advanced"/"expert" games, I need more roles which also do specialized things.
There isn't a full role list yet, but the basic roles have been fleshed out very well, and ideas for advanced ones are already on their way. Closing this.
