ERROR: Not a string #3901

Closed Ice-Drake closed 4 years ago

Ice-Drake commented 4 years ago

What behaviour is expected:

No error

What behaviour is observed:

See the error below repeated several times: [16:32:31 ERROR]: Not a string

Steps/models to reproduce:

The errors start to appear after the server is Done (loading). And it continues to occur when a user log in.

Plugin list:

AConomy, bChatManager, bPermissions, ChestSort, Citizens, DeadChest, dynmap, Dynmap-Citizens2, Dynmap-EssentialMarkers, Dynmap-GriefPrevention, Dynmap-Pet*, Geyser-Spigot, GriefPrevention, LibsDisguises, LumberJack, Multiverse-Core, Multiverse-Portals, MythicMobs, ProtocolLib, Sentinel, Shop, Thirst, Vault, WorldEdit, WorldGuard, WorldResourcepacks

Paper build number:

[19:21:29 INFO]: This server is running Paper version git-Paper-90 (MC: 1.16.1) (Implementing API version 1.16.1-R0.1-SNAPSHOT) [19:21:29 INFO]: Checking version, please wait... [19:21:30 INFO]: Previous version: git-Paper-243 (MC: 1.14.4) [19:21:30 INFO]: You are running the latest version

Anything else:

Can someone else guide me to figuring out where the problem might be coming from? I even set verbose in paper.yml to true, but it makes no difference. I am not getting these errors when I run Paper v1.14.4.

WonderDave commented 4 years ago

I'm also seeing those messages since upgrading from 1.15.2 to 1.16.1, so it's nice to know I'm not the only one. In my case, I think they show up only when a player logs into the server in a non-main world, or when a player changes from the main world to a non-main world. That makes me wonder if maybe the messages are related to Multiverse-Core, which we are both using. The other plugins we have in common are dynmap, Vault, WorldEdit, and WorldGuard.

Ice-Drake commented 4 years ago

Oh, you might be onto something there, @WonderDave. I did happen to log in on the non-main world, so I thought it was coming from the fact that I log in. I was able to observe that the error didn't reappear when I log in to the main world.

Because of the huge server version gap, I need to update almost all my plugins. Apparently, Multiverse-Core is the only one I can't update since there isn't any update for it. But the error indicates that it must be coming from Paper rather than from the plugin itself. I was able to isolate that the issue is not coming from WorldEdit, dynmap, or WorldResourcepacks.

electronicboy commented 4 years ago

This warning is coming from the data fixers in vanilla, would need testing against upstream, mainly spigot/vanilla with world upgrades, but, this is honestly just one of many issues introduced with the data upgrades in 1.16

pjpetree commented 4 years ago

I see this error on my 1.16.1 vanilla server when loading an older world with maps. I think it has to do with the fact that the map 'dimension' tag is now a string and not a byte as it was in older versions of Minecraft.

See: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-185417

ScuroK commented 4 years ago

Hello. i also get this message spammed in my console. any ideas how i can fix it?

EDIT: im on "git-Paper-137" btw.

Chew commented 4 years ago

This is DFU I believe, shouldn't happen on 1.16.2 (or, well be more descriptive or nonexistent)

Proximyst commented 4 years ago

This should still happen; I can't speak for descriptive-ness, but I highly doubt they've changed it much since 1.16.1.

Chew commented 4 years ago

Ah, well the issue itself, but I believe it no longer says ERROR: Not a string, not a DFU expert though :p

LogGits commented 4 years ago

Can confirm i get this spam in paper 174 1.16.2. EDIT: This is what it looks like:

Chew commented 4 years ago

I as well got this, though I was quite a few builds behind. Definitely not spammy.

electronicboy commented 4 years ago

This is marked as resolved, the only remaining issue afaik is a CB bug due to how extra dimensions are handled; The spam here is coming from loading maps which don't have a valid world UUID stored on them, not really sure there is much we can do here

prototype464 commented 4 years ago

Having this issue in 1.16.3 on Paper 207 - happening when I use a command block teleporter to a different location of the world in a separate world from the main world

Im working on fixing this, but note it's not an issue. it is purely log spam.

But the source of it did not have any data issues.

Use a log filtering plugin and it'll be resolved for you.

ScuroK commented 4 years ago

thx @aikar

As a "normal user" i would be so glad if this spam would disappear from my console without the need of external tweaks like plugins. i hope u can fix it <3 but in the meantime can you suggest a filter plugin?

Parth-Pandya1606 commented 4 years ago

It is a simple thing Just re star systems and delete the program (make sure correctly)
