Color to match Linux Mint-Y-Dark-Aqua theme #3465

Can you please create a new theme with a folder color that exactly matches the folder color of the Mint-Y-Dark-Aqua theme color for Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon? The color when I use color picker tool for this blue color of this theme is #1F9EDE

The current default blue color of the Papirus icon theme is a blue very similar to this theme but I have always found it slightly mis-matching the color shows up for papirus in the color tool as #5294E2 so it isn't a full match for linux's theme's #1F9EDE. Creating a new theme for papirus-icon-theme with this new #1F9EDE as the main folder color and calling it "Mint-Y-Dark-Aqua" would be ideal.

First of all, this probably should have been opened as an issue under papirus folders https://github.com/PapirusDevelopmentTeam/papirus-folders.

The colour for the Mint-Y-Aqua folders is slightly different from the theme selection colour - it's #57B8EC.

However, the colour for the Mint-Y-Blue folders is an exact match for the default Papirus blue folder colour (#5294E2), so I'm using the Mint-Y-Blue Gtk theme and Mint-Y-Dark-Blue Cinnamon theme with Papirus icons for a great consistent look in Mint 21.2.

No, this is the right place for the request.

Thank you @SmartFinn for clarifying that.

Also, apologies to you @adrummer354 I've realised that my post was at cross purposes to yours as I have been using the Linux Mint 21.2 beta, which has made changes to the folder icons from 21.1.

To clarify the situation, Mint 21.1 introduced new more vibrant accent colours for the Mint-Y themes, a change to Mint-Y-Aqua as the default theme, and folder icons based on Papirus (with a Sand colour and stripes to match each theme) https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_vera_cinnamon_whatsnew.php. Mint 21.1 also included papirus-icon-theme in the default installed packages for the first time.

Mint 21.2 (which will be released within a week) has made further changes to the folder icons which are still based on Papirus, but are now a range of colours (rather than just stripes). See https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_victoria_cinnamon_whatsnew.php

The colours for these folders are close to (but slightly different from) the matching theme. This has always been the case for Mint themes & icons. The old Mint-Y theme & icons, now called Mint-L (L for Legacy) has a theme accent of #92B372 and a folder colour of #8BB158 (Papirus green is a close match for this at #87B158). Other theme/icon combinations do this too - it helps selected folders stand out more, for example.

There are no separate Mint-Y-Dark icons in Mint 21.2 (the icon themes now use symbolic icons). The default theme is Aqua as with 21.1, but the default icons are Mint-Y-Sand #F9C470 (the closest match to this is Papirus paleorange #EECA8F).

The Mint-Y (green) theme in both 21.1 & 21.2 has an accent colour of #35A854, and the folder colour is now #50C16F in 21.2.

There are four Mint-Y icons where the folder colour matches one of the Papirus colours:

21.2 Mint-Y-Blue #5294E2 Papirus (default blue) #5294E2

21.2 Mint-Y-Cyan #00BCD4 Papirus cyan #00BCD4

21.2 Mint-Y-Teal #45ABB7 Papirus darkcyan #45ABB7

21.2 Mint-Y-Yaru #676767 Papirus yaru #676767

For Mint-Y-Teal and Mint-Y-Yaru, the folder icons also match the different styles of the Papirus folders.

So, you can already have a Papirus folder colour in Mint 21.2 that matches its Mint-Y equivalent. I'll leave it up to the Papirus Development team to decide whether to change the Papirus green colour to match 21.2 Mint-Y #50C16F, and introduce a new Papirus aqua #57B8EC.

I hope the above makes sense.

Thanks, I'll think about it. There is a reason that stop me now - the green color in Mint-Y is a bit acid.

and introduce a new Papirus aqua #57B8EC.

Mint-Y-Aqua theme color is equal to Papirus Breeze folder color. There is no sense to add, or rename Breeze to Aqua.

adrummer354 commented 11 months ago

After looking at the Papirus theme further I did notice that the Breeze was equal to or close enough equal to the Aqua theme that I could maybe use that. I ran into an issue though since I am using the Papirus theme that is supplied with my Linux Mint 21.1 installation and not installed independently that my commands for trying to switch the folder color through the command line did not work.

SmartFinn commented 11 months ago

@adrummer354 you have to install Papirus Folders with the Pairurs Installer, or with PPA. I have tested today, it works as expected.

adrummer354 commented 11 months ago

That installer got the change to work. Thanks!
