uploading the nix SVG to make it easier on the maintainers:
Is this file type has own mimetype? Please run the following command for the file and paste the output here:
gio info -a standard::icon PATH/to/file
attributes: standard::icon: text-plain, text-x-generic, text-plain-symbolic, text-x-generic-symbolic
Seems, there is no own mimetype for the nix files, nor an app. I have checked shared-mime-info and the nix package. I don't see a reason to add the icon that not be used.
Please, let me know if this mimetype is existing.
@SmartFinn we can use the icon on some default applications that come bundled with NixOS and more specific NixOS manual. It uses the above icon but with the name nix-snowflake. So I think it will be a good choice to have it available as an icon for both current and future applications, such as symlink, distribution logo #1901, etc.
to add onto this post, there is a project that has created a nix software store gui, which is an application https://github.com/vlinkz/nix-software-center
you could perhaps create an icon for this too?
appreciated :)
Could we reopen this, since we now have text/x-nix
mimetype? See https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xdg/shared-mime-info/-/merge_requests/309
Thanks!
This isn't an app. This is for the Nix language.
