Removing icons for dead software #3582

Papirus icon theme is about 7 years in active development. During this time, many programs and projects were abandoned and died. As to me, it's time to clean up their icons from the icon theme.

Here is a list of unmaintained and abandoned apps that have stopped working or can't be installed from repositories on modern Linux distributions:

@SmartFinn what's the process for deleting icons? Do find them individually in all folders and git remove them locally and then push? Asking in case you know a simpler method.

SmartFinn commented 10 months ago

@morganist I use fd icon_name.svg --exec-batch git rm and then check broken symlinks with make test_symlinks, but please do not remove icons by yourself. A lot of cases are controversial. I spend a lot of time to check all distro repos before remove an icon.

If you know any dead software, please add it to the list above.

By the way, adobe reader version 9.5.5 (2013) has an unofficial flatpak released on Flathub. It uses com.adobe.Reader icon. It's likely not going away anytime soon because it's a flatpak and can be installed anywhere with, like, no effort. I've heard some people use it. Just saying in case you'd want to delete it.

I know it, that's why I have left the icon. However, Adobe Reader for Linux is a dead software, so it's in the list.

gnome-games is being refactored, they're renaming it and began working on a new version as far as I know.
