Historical Display before 1960 Lorenz Curve Specialized Display #141

Hello colleagues:

I'm trying to build a long historical series measuring the gini coefficient for the distribution of relative capabilities (power) around the world for a project. First, I'm trying to build a historical series that measures power as the product of GDP and GDP per capita (country values relative to the global total). I built that series and attach it below. I tried to import it and override the series PopAngusMadison and didn't really have a problem, though I had to change the access file in design to allow for more years (from 2009-2017) and also to remove some earlier years (anything before 1820 or after 2017).

I made this the historical analogue for the series POWERHH and it works in Flex Display but I have two problems. The first is that I can't visualize anything before 1960 in Flex Display and I'm not sure why. The second related issue is that I try to create a gini measure of this using Specialized Display/Lorenz Curve and get the calculation back to 1960 but not back to 1820. Am I doing something wrong? If not, perhaps we need to allow the historical display to read the start date of the historical analogue and begin visualizing/calculating at that point in time?

Thank for any help you can provide.

Did you try using all available history, which is an option under Display format, that should address the first issue.

On the second issue, I did not remember this specialized display can use history plus forecast too, I thought it only used forecast, but anyway, I don't see an option to use all available history here, and it probably would take a couple of weeks to implement it.

I did not try to use all available history.

On the Lorenz display: There is an option at the top to use history and forecast and it works well with data from 1960 forward, so it's already been implemented but just needs to allow for longer time series.
