100% PC Fan issue #5769

Dear Devs,

I'm just a user, using POB as other POE lover would. However, I recently have an issue with POB that it would ran my PC fan at 100% when only on "selecting build" screen. I noticed this start happen after I change to my new high-end PC.

I found a solution on reddit But the SimpleGraphic.dll will be overwritten after any POB update and the issue comeback.

I wonder if there is a permanent solution for this.

P/s: I don't know if this fall into bug category, so I made a blank ticket. My new specs: i7-13700KF & RTX 3090, 32Gb Ram, running Win 10 Best Regards!

dont think SimpleGraphic limits the fps in the foreground at all, so its probs just wasting cpu cycles

here is the reddit link https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/80vp4r/pob_fix_high_cpu_usage/

You should probably check your system temperatures (gpu, cpu) and see what is causing your fan to ramp to that level as even if the certain scenario is more heavy it shouldn't cause the fans to run at 100%.

In case PoB is partially to blame. I assume you are running the latest version. FPS is capped to your monitor's framerate or somewhere between your max and min monitor frames for multi monitor setups (if on lower refresh rate monitor). image image On my system (11400 and rx 6700) at least cpu usage is lower on menu. This seems to suggest the fps cap isn't applying for you maybe? Could you try a complete reinstall and or show fps numbers using a program.

I checked and it only overloaded my GPU on "selecting build" screen, so the GPU fan ran at 100% capacity not the whole PC:

At "passive tree" screen, it is acceptable: image

I do have 2 monitors setup, main one is 144Hz QHD and 2nd is 75Hz FHD.

  • What is your screen resolution & refresh rate?
  • Which "power management mode" are you running on your RTX 3090?

I tried both balance and maximum performance, same result

Like I said, I found a temporary solution using SimpleGraphic.dll by sthalik (link: https://github.com/sthalik/PathOfBuilding-SimpleGraphic) But PoB will detect it as an "outdated file" and deletes it if I update.
