Helen Phillips sent me the BedMachine bathymetry to compare to the model bathymetry.

BedMachineAntarctica_2020-07-15_v02.nc

From docs: "BedMachine is a self-consistent dataset of the Antarctic Ice Sheet based on the con-servation of mass that is now freely available at NSIDC."

Code is here: https://github.com/PaulSpence/Denman2024Voyage/blob/paul/notebooks/bathy.ipynb

BedMachine topo comes with x,y coordinates in metres (why??). We need the x, y coordinates in the file to be in geographical longitude and latitude coordinates in degrees. Currently they are in meters, which I think is epsg:3031 coordinates. How do I convert these GIS coords to geographic?

Gorgeous figures, Paul. Is there a glimmer of hope for converting Bedmachine x/y to lat/lon. Maybe check in with Laura again. She seemed to think it was a solved problem. I think I prefer hot colours for shallow, cool for deep, as in the Bedmachine version.

@helenephillips haven't tackled Laura's suggested solution yet :) Just putting up a few quick figs to show some other modellers today.
