Would it be better to compare with WOA2018? This would improve on WOA2013, particularly for the last decade.
The scripts used to combine upper ocean monthly climatology with deep seasonal WOA13 data, convert to conservative temp and regrid to the model grid are here: https://github.com/COSIMA/initial_conditions_access-om2
Alternatively, the regridding could be done on the fly as described in https://github.com/COSIMA/cosima-recipes/blob/master/DocumentedExamples/Regridding.ipynb and the "Regridders" section in https://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/aekiss/ice_analysis/blob/main/ice_maps.ipynb#Regridders
Yep, good idea. Thanks for the help. We can access to WOA2018 data here: https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/access/world-ocean-atlas-2018/bin/woa18.pl
I'll get to it asap. Also need to start a Denman region project :)
OK cool. I've made a new dir to put it in: /g/data/ik11/inputs/WOA18
Wow, that NOAA website really sucks, but the monthly global, 1 deg WOA18 T/S data from 2005-2017 has been downloaded to ik11
what path?
good question ... it seems to be vanishing into the ether via:
rsync -av ~/Downloads/woa18*.nc @.***: /g/data/ik11/inputs/WOA18/
the data was being transferred, but nothing showing up.
I am now rsync -av ~/Downloads/woa18*.nc @.***: /g/data/v45/pas561/WOA18/
and the data is arriving there.

OK, let me know when it's finished and I'll move it to /g/data/ik11/inputs/WOA18

ok I've copied it to /g/data/ik11/inputs/WOA18
@PaulSpence can you amend the README as needed pls
I did this for WOA13, I'll look into it and see if I can do this for WOA18.
BTW, we have a directory for observations, e.g.
/g/data/ik11/observations/woa13
Look at IAF temp and salt anomalies relative to recent decade of WOA obs (not model initial conditons).
Figure out the crazy WOA filename structure. Download temp and salt data for recent decade. Convert temp to conservative and interpolate onto model grid.
