data.land: cleanup on data one

Description

Removing some unneeded superassignments to variables that are used only in local contexts.

Motivation and Context

Replaced my computer and am going through long-forgotten stashes in my development forks, including this one that I apparently committed three years ago but never pushed until now [:homer-disappear:]
