My co-worker ran into this problem. It appears that a compiled regex used inside a /x pattern needs to be /x as well. The following demonstrates:
$pat = 'foo'; $c_pat = qr/foo/; $c_pat_fixed = qr/foo/x;
$string = 'foo';
$\ = $/; print 'normal: '\, $string =~ / $pat /x ? 'Yes' : 'No'; print 'qr: '\, $string =~ / $c_pat /x ? 'Yes' : 'No'; print 'fixed qr: '\, $string =~ / $c_pat_fixed /x ? 'Yes' : 'No';
I've noted this failure under 5.005_03/Linux and 5.005_02/Linux

Is this using sendmail? If I remember correctly\, sendmail only allows you to lie about the From address if you are a 'trusted user'.
A temporary solution might be to add a 'Reply-to' list of p5p and the originator: people's autoquoting will still claim that you wrote the message\, but at least they'll be able to reply to the correct person. (In fact\, the list should probably have perlbug rather than p5p so that replies get picked up by the bugtron.)
Ugh. Reply-To's are awful. If it takes running sendmail as a trusted user\, by all means run the thing as a trusted user.
If that can't be done for some reason\, I think the bugtron should simply do the same thing 'dist' (in MH) does. I'm no sendmail expert\, but sticking in a Resent-From header may do the trick.
