Hi Perl People
I hope this is the right place to request help. I am trying to install Perl Kit version 5.003_05 on a VMS cluster running VMS 6.2.
This is the output from the command run:
$ mms/descrip=[.vms]
MMS %CREATE-I-EXISTS\, [--.LIB.AUTO.FCNTL] already exists %DCL-W-IVVERB\, unrecognized command verb - check validity and spelling \0\ %MMS-F-ABORT\, For target [--.LIB.AUTO.FCNTL].EXISTS\, CLI returned abort status: %X00038090. -CLI-W-IVVERB\, unrecognized command verb - check validity and spelling %MMS-F-ABORT\, For target [.LIB]FCNTL.PM\, CLI returned abort status: %X10EE8034. $ dir [.lib]fnctl.pm %DIRECT-W-NOFILES\, no files found
These were the files afterwards:
Miniperl.exe - created the date of the build Perlshr.exe - created the date of the build Perl.exe - created the date of the build PerlShr_attr.opt - created the date of the build Perlshr_bld.opt - created the date of the build
c2ph - NOT CREATED [.perl5_003_05.Utils] has c2ph.pl with 3/96 date h2ph - NOT CREATED [.perl5_003_05.Utils] has h2ph.pl with 8/96 date h2xs - NOT CREATED [.perl5_003_05.Utils] has h2xs.pl with 9/96 date [.lib.pod]perldoc - NOT CREATED [.perl5_003_05.Utils] has perldoc.pl with 9/96 date
[.lib]config.pm - created the date of the build [lib]dynaloader.pm - created the date of the build
This is the output from your further directions:
$ mcr sys$disk:[]miniperl.exe -v
This is perl\, version 5.003_05
Copyright 1987-1996\, Larry Wall
+ suidperl security patch Perl may be copied only under the terms of either the Artistic License or the GNU General Public License\, which may be found in the Perl 5.0 source kit.
$ $ mcr sys$disk:[]Miniperl "-V" Can't locate Config.pm in @INC. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted. %RMS-E-FNF\, file not found $ dir [.lib]config.pm
Directory V1:[F22AVILA.PERL5_003_05.LIB]
CONFIG.PM;3 CONFIG.PM;2 CONFIG.PM;1
Total of 3 files. $ mmk/descrip=[.vms] printconfig %DCL-W-IVVERB\, unrecognized command verb - check validity and spelling \MMK\
It seemed to be lookingfor config.pm which was present\, so I don't understand the "can't locate" message and our system definitely does not have mmk . Can you help or tell me to whom I should direct my questions?
thank you Darlene Avila davila@west.raytheon.com 310 334-0208.

This isn't the correct way to build perl on VMS any more. Instead\, execute CONFIGURE.COM\, answer the questions\, and build with a plain MMS. (There's more extensive docs in the README.VMS file)
