Maybe this is more of a feature suggestion.
In X11 the middle button emulation would allow cut and paste with the middle button.
In Wayland this is not happening (scroll is working with emulation using your hook just fine).
I notice in Gnome Tweaks there is under Keyboard and Mouse, "Middle Click Paste" but it doesn't seem to work.
