Re-enable FF13 plugin #344

Closed 6a61 closed 8 years ago

Changing the resolution from the official launcher doesn't work correctly, it does change the resolution but causes some text to be missing while analyzing the monsters. With the FF13 plugin enabled, it works as it should (ie. no more missing text while downsampling from a higher resolution than 720p).

More importantly, without this plugin you can't actually use downsampling feature, because you need to set in-game resolution to the same rendering resolution you set in Gedosato. And you can't easily do it in this game.

What are the conflicts that must be resolved?

7hund3r commented 8 years ago

In short: some of the in-game text (or image) is displayed on a fixed 720p (screen) position (not in a text-box). Meaning: using any other resolution than 720p, the main image overlay will obscure the text (or image).

This is a major official 'bug' for years now, which can't or will not be resolved/fixed by Square-Enix, due to reasons, even though its basically a game breaking 'bug', since these 'notes' are very important when facing specific boss enemies.

Running the game in 720p and then up/down scaling via GeDoSaTo (with the plugin enabled) this 'bug' is not an issue.

So now that this plugin has been re-enabled, should we revert the changes made by these PRs?

Yes we should. You should allow gedosato to still continue to use its versions of the effects as well. The launcher holds the cmdlines to enable square's effects. I don't use the launcher because I play all my games through launchbox so that the intrusive launcher box won't come up and I can play str8 from the exe. So I have all the cmdlines that control all options in the launcher. Yes, this will cause black screen when using the launcher (if it's something other than the ini settings). So whoever uses the launcher, all they have to do is remove the gedosato ini changes themselves so that the options won't conflict with square enix's. But they still should be available to those who don't want to use the square launcher. But if they still work without anymore internal work, then that's fine too because currently, ppl report no black screen anymore like it use to have.

I still had them from an old version but they should be posted so ppl would know. If you want them to be commented out at start, that's fine.

Just updated from Jacuzzi's steam dll. FFXIII now looks like crap. What happened? The dll from the steam post looks fine. The gedo update looks like nothing is working. Why?

Wait for a new build.
