Hi @PhABC,

I would like to suggest to add ENCODS2018, which is a neuroscience PhD meeting. We, a group of PhD students from different fields within Neuroscience coming from Berlin and Essen, are organising the meeting this year and would be very happy to see as many interested students at possible joining us in Berlin for an exciting conference.

Name : European Neuroscience Conference by Doctoral Students (ENCODS) Website : http://www.fens.org/Training/ENCODS/ Application Deadline : 31st of January, 2018 Location : Berlin, Germany Dates : 5-6th of July Short description : The 21st century has been named the “Century of the Mind”. With two feet in the new millennium, the next generation of neuroscientists experiences exciting times. ENCODS 2018 is a pioneer conference, which creates a space for young doctoral researchers to engage with the use of technologies in neuroscience.

Novel experimental techniques, growing computational power and incorporation of complex mathematical modeling enrich the toolbox of today’s neuroscientists. From CRISPR and optogenetics to big data analysis, we are inviting leading experts to shine light on the possibilities, which novel methods open for neuroscience.

With the turn of the century, the internet has led to innovations in all fields of society. Neuroscience is one of the youngest and most diverse communities in science, the ideal candidate to fully embrace the digital world. Via workshops and participant-driven events, our conference promotes innovative tools to facilitate everyday work and collaborations. Furthermore, we encourage participants to envision novel ways of sharing scientific insight.

Name : Visual Neuroscience: from spikes to awareness Website : http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de/rauisch/ Application Deadline : 3 April, 2018 Location : Giessen, Germany Dates : 2-14 September 2018 Short description :

Visual neuroscience studies the neural underpinnings of visual function and visual sensation. Its results contribute to our understanding of cognitive brain processes in general and also help to boost the capabilities of technological vision systems.

Vision neuroscience involves a wide variety of methods and approaches—computational theory, neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, functional imaging, psychophysics, neuropsychology, and others—and illustrates perhaps more clearly than any other area of brain research, the overriding need to combine and coordinate these diverse efforts.

The European Summer School exposes young vision researchers—at the late pre-doctoral or early post-doctoral level—to the principal methods and seminal issues of contemporary visual neuroscience. In addition, it seeks to build a basic fluency in the emerging lingua franca of computational neuroscience. The range of topics is broad, literally from spikes to awareness, and the pace correspondingly brisk. This intensive experience should allow participants take a broader view of, and make more informed decisions about, their future research direction.

The European Summer School is taught by leading researchers in neurobiology, neuropsychology, psychophysics, and theoretical neuroscience. Two thematically related topics are covered each day, with approximately 3 hours allotted to each (including discussion time). An after-dinner discussion provides an opportunity to contrast and compare the day’s lectures. In addition, students pursue computational and theoretical projects (based on Matlab) during the afternoon, to experiment with key concepts and techniques of computational neuroscience.

Added to the list @anne-urai!

Sorry for not responding earlier @pfeffer90. I assume I did not include this event in the list since it's not technically considered a "school" per say like the others, but more of a conference.

Hi @PhABC, here's a new summer school in neuroscience, thanks a lot for adding us!

Name : Barcelona summer school for Advanced Modelling of Behavior (BAMB!) Website : www.bambschool.org Application Deadline : 3 June, 2019 Location : Barcelona (Spain) Dates : 4-10 September 2019 Short description :

The new Barcelona summer school for Advanced Modelling of Behavior (BAMB!) teaches advanced techniques in model-based analysis of behavior (humans and other species) to cognitive and computational neuroscientists at PhD and early career levels. This will be achieved through structured lectures, talks, hands-on tutorials and group project aimed at making knowledge obtained directly applicable to the participants' own research. We want the trainees to acquire both the conceptual bases and the technical skills that will enable them to pursue a full modelling approach on their own when they come back to their lab.

The course is intended for PhD students and postdocs in cognitive and computational neuroscience with solid background in computational/quantitative analysis to benefit maximally from the advanced training offered by the course. Proficiency in either Python or Matlab is also required. We will seek a nice blend of experimentalists (cognitive psychology / neuroscience) and theoreticians (with or without experience in cognitive modeling).Female scientists and scientists from underrepresented countries are especially encouraged to apply.

Organizers:

Chris Summerfield (Oxford / Deepmind) Klaus Wimmer (CRM, Barcelona)

Alex Hyafil (UPF/CRM, Barcelona)

Confirmed Faculty:

Jean Daunizeau (ICM, Paris) Alex Hyafil (UPF/CRM, Barcelona) Kerstin Preuschoff (Geneva) Alfonso Renart (Champalimaud) Maneesh Sahani (UCL)
