could we have both a Designated marksman unit with weapons like these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_marksman_rifle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_marksman and sniper teams with higher caliber weapons?

Gives the devs more options. If they aren't used they just sit in the Ph3.

Not planned for a long time, for now, just snipers. You can manually edit the sniper to have marksman rifles, or add a marksman to a fireteam instead of an AT gunner. But that isn't something we're adding to the elements yet.
