As it stands, the model does not include mortality, and tau is thus optimised without any risk of foraging being accounted for. I suppose that, ultimately, the optimisation should include natural mortality and optimise energy gain over M.

In the simulation model (e.g., mizer) this is trivial as we can calculate predation mortality at each step and optimise tau accordingly, but perhaps it would be best to use the community spectrum mortality at mass to keep it simple (e.g., equation 2 in @Kenhasteandersen et al. 2009)?

This would also pull down the activity level, I think, to more reasonable values.
