OpenRA - Opposing Worlds, a mod that adds a lovely mixed bunch of cool, silly, over the top stuff, while also providing a neat and fun, and (mostly) balanced gameplay experience.
Looking into the Co-op commanders for StarCraft 2, it's given me some ideas on how we 2 subfactions (or Commanders) to the 3 StarCraft factions. We'll keep the base factions, since these subfactions are very specialised.
For Terran
Raynor's Raiders - Infantry specialisation, controllable hero unit
[x] Start with rank 1 infantry, U-238 Shells upgrade is granted for free, and all infantry get Stimpacks without needing an Academy
[x] Upgrades to enable faster and slightly cheaper infantry production, accessible from the Academy
[x] Upgrade to enable Medics to heal vehicles/mechanical units
[x] Upgrade to resist tiberium effects (not sure if Terran infantry actually already have immunity to walking on tib)
[x] Stronger spider mines
[x] Make Jim into a Hero type unit utilising the Hero unit system that's yet to be used for anything, but nerf him generally for this sub faction, which he can then be re-upgraded to via experience and whatnot. He should have extra abilities like calling in an airstrike
[x] Limit Battlecruiser unit to 1 instead of 2
[x] Allow Dropships to combat paradrop and heal infantry
[x] Hyperion - call down the Battlecruiser to fight for 60 seconds or until it's too heavily damaged. Provides a Squad Boost buff to nearby units, and can teleport wherever it wants on the map (15 sec cooldown)
This commander seems to focus more heavily on the hero unit rather than the army. Utilise Hero unit stuff that TumbraWolf added.
[x] Raptor zerglings (in SC2 this allows them to leap over things and leap at enemies from a distance, I could give them an attack similar to the Dog leap but that would be way overpowered since it instakills, so I might just give them extra speed and attack range)
[x] Torrasque ultralisks, has an increased area of damage, can regenerate when killed, only once every 60 seconds (will need to look into how I can do that, probably with a Husk type actor, that will only spawn on death when the Ultralisk is not killed within 60 seconds of spawning. Will also give it less health just for the sake of balancing)
[x] Small life steal on unit attacks
[x] Assimilation aura - basically the GLA bounty but only Kerrigan causes it
Zagara - Base expansion, army production, controllable hero unit
[x] Further, faster creep spread
[x] Creep tumors, spreads creep - placeable by a Zagara. Use maybe the Chrysalis sprite?
[x] Free access to structure placement rather than using Drones? (I'll fully rework this anyway since the current setup is kinda buggered)
[x] Banelings - suicide bomb zerglings basically. Probably just use broodlings for the sprites.
[x] Spawn Banelings from killed larger units such as Hydralisks and whatnot
[x] Faster unit production
[x] Make Zagara. Find sprites! Use Hero preset
[x] Give Zagara her own build queue to be able to place the Creep tumours, and other stuff. She will also have her own build area to allow placement only in her vicinity.
[x] Can make use of Egg sprites for direct placement of spawning units.
[x] Engine change - look into adding a boolean to ResourceLayer to enable selected resources to seed underneath occupied cells. (ie Creep, and maybe veins later down the line)
For Protoss
General adjustments
[x] Allow Archons to attack air units
Artanis - Heavy focus on support powers and teleporting armies.
[x] Shield support power that can grant shields to friendlies,
[x] Reinforced shields upgrade granted for free
[x] Overshield support power - grants area affected actors a special shield to absorb additional damage
[x] Ability to directly place unit(s) on the field within a Pylon's build area
[x] Support power to spawn a special Pylon anywhere visible on the map
[x] Orbital bombardment power
[x] No Dark Templars, no Arbiter, no Mothership
[x] Fenix (Dragoon) epic unit (nothing special, just a strong Dragoon)
