Many older an current tech communities experience arrogance, disrespect and even sexist language. There has been an increasing awareness of this issues to the point that a "code of conduct" has been written and used by many (like you use a license).
This is just a plea to be professional and respectful. The majority will not care, but a few that may feel intimidated in general may be encouraged to participate by such a covenant. It cannot hurt. And is also a way to tell everybody that we subscribe to such a principles (that as you said should be granted in a scientific context).
I would simply move the link to the beginning of the section to make clear that this is standard wording (therefore more generic).
I would suggest only putting a link to that language, period. It is pretty obvious we won't let any of this happen, so what is the point of writing it? It looks pretentious and frankly, a bit ridiculous. I just don't think the size and age of this project justifies all these legal paraphernalia.
Ok, fine with me, closing this. I'll do the change shortly.
I think the original version is more appropriate for a wide audience forum, not for a scientific collaboration project, where it is very unlikely that we will encounter any of these issues.
