obĺique relation is used for nominal phrases that modify verbs and behave like adverbials. Check Russian example 39: http://universaldependencies.org/u/dep/all.html#al-u-dep/case Whenever there is a case to a nominal it is linked as obl.
I suppose the issue can closed.
No, I want to re-open :-)
There are several instances where I am seeing something as an "object" or "iobj" but you tag them as "obl". I have been reading the UD documentation and Wiki page about oblique case, but haven't figured out when should we use obj vs obl.
"obĺique relation is used for nominal phrases that modify verbs and behave like adverbials"
Also, that Example 39 you mentioned - it does not have anything marked as obl right?
I looked at other examples on UD website (http://universaldependencies.org/u/dep/obl.html) -to me, it seemed like obl comes into picture only in sentences without a nominal subject (nsubj) in active voice.
I think I was not consistent about obj vs obl. My understanding of obj is that it is usually has a patient role. It is showing a overt accusative marker or not showing any. In contrast obl is something that is used with nominals with instrumentative, comitative, dative cases.
In chapter 9.1, Sentence 2, మీరు ఎలా మా ఊరికి వచ్చారు? What is the relation between వచ్చారు and (మా ఊరికి)? I marked it as OBJ. But should it be marked OBL because it is dative object?
I am having troubles understanding the difference between obj, obl and iobj dependency relations. Any Telugu sentence examples with explanations? or Should I read anything specific from BhK book?
