Option to prevent automatic splitting of search terms by spaces

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(Not a bug report, just an enhancement)

All search queries are split by spaces into individual search terms.  For the 
project I'm working on, it's more useful to have it search to whole query as 
a single query.  I hacked together a fix on my local copy.  I didn't do a 
pull and push request, because I'm not all that familiar with testing in 
general.  If that's wanted, I can look at when I have some free time.

The variables could probably be renamed to something better, but this is what 
I put in to get it to work.
