open dialog freezes #86

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. click 'open' icon

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected to see a dialog allowing me to open a file, but i see a box that
says "open" on the top, but there is nothing in it.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I am using beta 0.7. I am running Ubuntu 10.04.

Please provide any additional information below.

This is probably the same as Issue 85, merging.

Looks like something that happens in Ubuntu only (I have the exact same 
versions in 
Arch with no problem).
