Cannot enable spell-checker Linux Ubuntu Karmic #87

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. wget http://marave.googlecode.com/files/marave-0.7.tar.gz
2. apt-get install python-qt4 python-enchant
3. tar xzvf marave-0.7.tar.gz
4. cd marave-0.7
5. python setup.py install
6. marave-editor
> Using canvas editor
> Disabling spellchecker

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Dunno.  "Enabling spellchecker?"

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.7
Linux Ubuntu Karmic Koala x86_64

Please provide any additional information below.
I tried installing aspell, wamerican, and hunspell libs, but to no avail.

The spellchecker is disabled by default, you can enable it in the settings 
dialog.

This is getting more interesting.  I don't have a settings dialog when I start 
marave-
editor.  In order, I have: font, search, file, camera, cricket bat, and power.

The "cricket bat" is supposed to be a screwdriver and open the settings dialog.

When I click on the screwdriver, it makes a blinking cursor visible in the 
editing 
area (the buttons do not disappear until I begin typing).

FYI I just upgraded to Lucid, and the configuration dialog works now.
