Add horizontal and vertical scrollbar to data export wizard window #8

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Click the "Export data" tool.
2. If the browser window is small or a user has many toolbars and menu bars and
less website space, the user cannot easily navigate through the data export
wizard. For example, in Step 1, there is no way to scroll to click "Next" if I
don't have enough website space.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is that the user could vertically scroll to view "Next."
Instead, a user cannot vertically scroll.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Tested MORIS v. 0.35 on Windows 7 and Firefox 3.16.13.

Current workaround: A user may turn off the web browser's toolbars and menu
bars or resize the browser window to have more website space. The data export
wizard window may also be resized. To resize the window, move the mouse cursor
over the window edge, hold down the mouse button, and drag the window edge to
the desired height and width.

At least a vertical scrollbar should appear for all windows in the data export
wizard.

Committed revision 65.

I don't see this. Charlton, can you give me a screenshot of what it looks like
for you? I want to make sure I'm looking for the right thing...

Odd, but I still don't see this in any of the browsers.
I'll attach a screenshot from IE 8.

They shouldn't appear until they are needed. Shrink the window, and they
should show up.

Now I see the vertical ones, but not the horizontal ones... but maybe we don't
really need horizontal ones? Charlton, I see the vertical one in your
screenshot. Can you get a horizontal one too?

Most (all?) of the interior panels will shrink reasonably well. You can shrink
them past the point of recognition and a horiz. scrollbar might help, but the
recoding of the panels to trigger a horizontal scrollbar wouldn't be worth it .
. . in my opinion.

That's what I concluded too. I'm happy the way it is, I'll let CZM chime in.

If you shrink the window too much in the horizontal direction the Data layers
of interest and the Advanced panes get kinda messed up; see screenshot. I'm
not sure if anything can realistically be done about this but I wanted to point
it out regardless.

Q for Charlton: Is the window designed to automatically resize itself when
MORIS is opened on a small screen?

Yes, but it makes some minimum assumptions. That's why I worry that the main
toolbar is so wide.

"That's why I worry that the main toolbar is so wide."

Charlton, are you referring to the The zoom in --> ?Help toolbar ?

Would a dropdown or two alleviate this concern?

Right. But I don't want to mess w/ toolbar changes. I might punt that to Saul
since there are quite a few opportunities for (a) user customization and (b) me
to break things.

While testing this, I noticed that the data export wizard window could not be
moved the second time I opened it in a MORIS session. If I opened the data
export wizard, closed it, and then reopened it, I could no longer move the
window around.

Tested with Chrome 14, IE 9, and Firefox 6 on Windows 7 and with Chrome 14 on
Windows XP.

Wow, that was weird. It would only bomb if you clicked on the X.

Committed revision 139.

That should hopefully fix it.
