A few years ago, Adobe decided to replace the aging Exif/IPCT/NAA standard
with the new, RDF-based XMP-standard. This is now the default metadata
method for Photoshop, and other software starts supporting it as well
(F-Spot). It makes sense for The Big Picture to support it too.
The XMP specification is quite readable and makes it quite clear where the
data should be stored in the different kind of files. XMP is an extensible
standard though, so collecting the tag data should take a bit more effort.
