Brainstorming #1

Let's think how to bring a broadcast feature to something that already exists.

I'm looking at rdio.com (but the ads are running after every effn song) and deezer (which is where grooveshark ripped their new look of)

The idea is to create a bookmarklet that would control playing songs and integrate it with a chat app that already exists and has simple integrations (slack? ideas?)

So are we moving to rdio or what?

Everyone's on whatsapp right now, but in my opinion the most realistic way to bring broadcasts back (as noone has them) is to integrate a chat with deezer.com

rdio plays an ad between each two songs in the free option, which is unbearable. If I have time this weekend I'll look into controlling deezer so that it's possible to play the same songs for everyone involved. After that we only need to find a chat that is easy to integrate (and free)

If anyone wants to help without getting involved in coding, looking for small and simple chat apps is the thing. (also, they have to be more or less standalone. integrating the facebook chat is not an option)

So any updates? Since I am not on the whatsapp I might missing a lot of things. I can be in for the chat program but it is better if we find something integrated. Or at least we can do it oldschool, chat from IRC. :)

Update: I figured out deezer's player, it's going to be easy to control it from a bookmarklet like the one we had before. I found a totally free chat provider and created a group for us: http://piratesofgrooveshark.chatango.com/

Now to have everything prepared, I need to hack my way into the chat, so I can use it to synchronize playlist (broadcaster plays a song, chat gets updated, everyone else starts playing the song)

Problems:

naugtur commented 9 years ago

I had everything ready in my head, wanted to get down to it today and implement a deezer hack to have broadcasts and host it on my server, but then... I found http://track.tl

It has everything. Get a deezer account (it's a must if you want to play boobs by Tripod) then log in to track.tl with deezer and start a party. Others can vote and there's a "radio" toggle (in desktop browsers only for now, but they say they're working on it)

I tested it and it works! The only drawback - partyname.track.tl is pinned to the broadcaster that sets it up and it's going to be hard to switch. I created piratesofgrooveshark.track.tl and I don't know how to give it to someone else (when broadcaster is out, the songs won't play)

Also, my whatsapp can't handle 100000 messages and I can't get it to work anymore :)

God dammit Zibi, get yourself a phone that can handle WhatsApp already! ^_^ I've created an account in Tracktl, we can try it out.
