On phinch.org there is:

Please cite the Phinch framework as follows: Bik, H.M., Bu, S., Grubbs, W. (manuscript in preparation) Phinch: An interactive, exploratory data visualization framework for environnmental sequence data https://github.com/PitchInteractiveInc/Phinch

However it looks like in the meantime a preprint has been published at biorxiv.org:

Phinch: An interactive, exploratory data visualization framework for –Omic datasets Holly M Bik, Pitch Interactive. bioRxiv 009944; doi:10.1101/009944

Which one is the preferred way of citation?

Apologies for the confusion - the bioRxiv citation is the correct one (and we have submitted this manuscript for peer review, which is currently in revision).

Need to update info on the phinch.org site
