Camera won't take photos or videos. #4703

Closed rykhe closed 1 year ago

rykhe commented 1 year ago

Build date

TQ1A.230205.002 PixelExperience_Plus_whyred-13.0-20230303-0328-OFFICIAL

Expected Behavior

Open app that utilizes the camera, taking a photo or video and having it saved to memory.

Current Behavior

Camera preview works, but when you take a picture the app will either freeze or do nothing (not even save the photo). This behavior is present in Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, BeReal and stock camera app. The only app that works perfectly fine is GCam GO (com.google.android.apps.cameralite).

Edit: GCam GO has the same behaviour but occurs rarely (spits an error after waiting a while). Also Telegram small camera preview (when you tap the paper clip) doesn't work.

Possible Solution

Edit here

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Stock camera app, Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram and/or BeReal
  2. Try to take a video or photo in the app
  3. Tap to take a photo or video

/device whyred /version thirteen_plus

On redmi note 7/ lavender version 13 plus exactly the same issue.

rykhe commented 1 year ago

Recently GCam GO gave me the same issue. If I took a photo the app didn't freeze, but it spits an error after a while. Updated post

FWIW, this issue is already there with the Android 13 build made by the previous maintainer

Issue still present in TQ2A.230305.008.C1 PixelExperience_Plus_whyred-13.0-20230325-0421-OFFICIAL

No more issue on mine with latest build (I did a full wipe). but there's still freezes on a few apps with an embedded camera view (such as qr code scans or similar use cases)

I have the same for any Lavender build, but it works perfectly on Snapchat and only on it

I have the same problem on a fresh installation of PixelExperience_whyred-13.0-20230325-0756-OFFICIAL.zip

The camera sometimes works and sometimes it previews the image, but is unable to take photos. Closing and opening it again and randomly starts working again.

Same here, on redmi note 7/ lavender with thirteen plus. Just did a fresh installation of TQ2A.230305.008.C1 PixelExperience_Plus_lavender-13.0-20230324-2213-OFFICIAL and the camera, in any app that uses it (whatsapp, instagram, gcam, stock camera app, etc), sometimes works and sometimes it previews the image, freezes and is unable to take photos.

Happy that the bug is solved, but a little sad there's no next build as it seems whyred is not maintained anymore :) oh well

So sad… :(

Was it a problem on the camera app? A general pixelexperience problem or just a device issue? Building the firmware from the latest sources will fix it?

The bug isn't fixed though.

I reckon it's a general PE problem because, now that I switch to ELIXIR, I still have the issue (camera not working all the time, except in Snapchat). I didn't have this issue on LineageOS. Plus, the OP has a whyred device, and I have a lavender.

Also, I don't know if it's related but on LOS the device wasn't certified in the Play Store (Play Store settings > About > Play Protect Certification) and the camera worked quite fine (just the bad quality of course). But now on PE and ELIXIR, the device is certified but the camera isn't working fine (Instagram won't take pictures or videos sometimes (even if I reboot the device), and basically almost all third-party apps, except for Snapchat). Maybe that could help?
