It would be helpful to have the ability to edit journal entries so that they can include callouts for various checks -- skill checks, saving throws, damage rolls. Some systems (like PF2) have this inherently, others gain it through a module.
Skill checks would have to include references to the skills, abilities (because you aren't just limited to one with each skill), skill specialties (for including expertise dice), tool proficiencies. Saves should only have to reference the save stat. It would be necessary to add the ability to specify the DC, and whether the roll is secret (i.e., only the Narrator can see the result), if the roll has advantage or disadvantage, and if additional expertise dice apply.
It might also help to be able to include tags with the callout, so if you have a save against a poison effect, adding the poison tag would allow a dwarf with the Dwarven Toughness gift would automatically gain an expertise die.
