One of last year's students, Matt, solved this one:
"As a warning: Unreal Engine doesn't like creating code-based projects in Treforests' labs. It'll throw a 'can't find windows.h' error. To fix this go into project->properties and in the following window Configuration Properties->VC++ Directories and click and select inheret from parent..... For each blank box."
