The Necrosis detection service described in this paper is using images of root cross-sections quantitate % necrosis scores. This is incredibly useful data, but it does not match the existing variables in the ontology which rely on visual estimation on a scale of 1- 10. We need a new variable in order to store and analyze the new scores in Breedbase.
Ideally, it'd look something like this:
[Term]
id: CO_334:???????
name: Cassava brown streak disease root severity
namespace: CassavaVariable
def: "Internal root discoloration or vascular streaking that renders cassava roots unfit for human or animal consumption.\nThe percentage of tissue from a root cross section that appears discolored as determined by image analysis." [CO:curators]
relationship: variable_of CO_334:0000090 ! Cassava brown streak disease root severity
relationship: variable_of CO_334:??????? ! Calculation: Percent of visible root tissue that appears rotten
relationship: variable_of CO_334:0100583 ! pct (%)
