A structure on the tuber surface that can sprout. It also has a significance in determining the processing quality.

Made new terms to accommodate this request:

Tuber axillary vegetative bud: An axillary vegetative bud that is part of a tuber.

Aerial tuber axillary vegetative bud: A tuber axillary vegetative bud that is part of an aerial tuber.

Subterranean tuber vegetative bud: A tuber axillary vegetative bud that is part of a subterranean tuber. Syn: eye, potato eye. Comments: In potatoes, axillary vegetative buds (eyes) can determine processing quality.

In the last comment, that should read "subterranean tuber axillary vegetative bud." What a mouthful.

These terms were accepted at the POC conference call on 6-14-10. Need to add tuber bud as an exact synonym of tuber axillary vegetative bud.

Also, Naama's proposed definition for tuber eye (A structure on the tuber surface that can sprout) will be added as a comment to subterranean tuber axillary vegetative bud.

Renamed based on the changes to tuber and the new term shoot axis tuber (PO:0004543) (OBO_SF_PO: 3017726)

Old name and def'n: tuber axillary vegetative bud (PO:0025040)

Revised name and def'n:: shoot axis tuber axillary vegetative bud: An axillary vegetative bud (PO:0004712) that is part of a shoot axis tuber (PO:0004543).
