Would this be a child of somatic embryo?
Original comment by: rlwalls2008
Could be in subset for angiosperms and subset for gymnosperms.

All embryos that do not arise from a fertilization event are apomitic. Apomixis is the general term for reproduction without fusion of gametes. it would be better here to use nucellar embryo. This way the term is more information on its own.

Another example of general use of apomixis would be dandelion where the embryo is from an unreduced egg.

I like the name DWS suggested,
Propose renaming: nucellar plant embryo: A somatic plant embryo derived directly from nucellus cells without involving embryo sac cells. [source: POC:Curators]
broad synonyms: apomitic plant embryo, adventitious embryo
Comment: Common in Citrus.

The fact that it is derived from the nucellus precludes anything to do with the embryo sac. The nucellus is the original sporophtyte tissue in contrast to the embryo sac being the gametophyte. So we can drop tat part and simplify the definition.

Right: How about: nucellar plant embryo: A somatic plant embryo derived directly from nucellus cells.

Good.

On the 4-28-11 POC Conference Call, we accepted the revised definition: A somatic plant embryo derived directly from nucellus cells. Broad synonym: adventitious embryo Also accepted the revised comment: Commonly found in Citrus Subset: Citrus Closing this tracker

The existing term 'adventitious embryo' is a child of plant embryo.
Current def'n: Embryo derived directly from nucellus cells without involving embryo sac cells.
At the POC meeting 4-26-11, we discussed whether or not to merge adventitious embryo with somatic embryo and make it a synonym, but after further consideration I think it would be better,to rename it "apomitic plant embryo" and make it an is_a child.
proposed comment: The phenomena of apomixis is commonly seen in Citrus.
