leaf sheath margin (PO:0025619) #661

Open mlschaeffer opened 7 years ago

mlschaeffer commented 7 years ago

leaf sheath margin is required to annotate traits from published literature for maize.

Specifically, pubescence of the leaf sheath margin, as separate from pubescence of the leaf sheath. See Flint-Garcia et al 2005. pubmed ID 16359397..

Suggested definition, based on current leaf margin definition : A phyllome margin (PO:0025018) of a vascular leaf sheath (PO:0020104). SEE

Hi Mary, So this is actually two terms- the leaf sheath margin from PO and pubescence of the leaf sheath margin will be a TO term in a separate tracker.

I have created the PO term for you:

leaf sheath margin (PO:0025619) Proposed definiton: leaf sheath margin (PO:0025619): A cardinal organ part (PO:0025001) that is the edge of a leaf sheath (PO:0020104) and the area immediately internally adjacent to it.

This cannot be a phyllome margin as the leaf sheath is a cardinal organ part of a leaf.

Revisions to leaf sheath (PO:0020104)

Current def'n: A tubular portion of the leaf surrounding the stem, as in the Poaceae.

is_a cardinal organ part (PO:0025001) part_of part_of some 'vascular leaf' (PO:0009025)

Revised def'n: A cardinal organ part (PO:0025001) that is the lower part of a vascular leaf (PO:0009025), and which more or less encases the stem (PO:0009047).

Current comment: If you are annotating to this term, please add an additional annotation to vascular leaf (PO:0009025) or non-vascular leaf (PO:0025075), depending on the species. All annotations for angiosperms, gymnosperms, and pteridophytes should go to vascular leaf and all annotations for bryophytes should go to non-vascular leaf.

Revised comment: A leaf sheath is usually tubular shaped, and is found in the Poaceae family and other monocots.

Removed the annotation statement as it is not necessary since this term is part of vascular leaf' (PO:0009025)
