One of the things that's been on our "to do" list for maybe a hundred megaseconds has been to join NumFOCUS. NumFOCUS could help with community, promotion, and funding.
We have two options for joining:
Fiscally sponsored project, which would include financial administration, operational and legal support. We'd officially become a part of NumFOCUS.
Affiliated project, which would keep us financially & legally separate from NumFOCUS but would let us be part of the community.
My inclination is to try to become a fiscally sponsored project since that could open up funding avenues for us that were previously unavailable. Also, we'd not need to go through the process twice.
The quarterly application due dates are:
January 15 (Round 1)
April 15 (Round 2)
July 15 (Round 3)
October 15 (Round 4)
We'd be notified ≲45 days after these dates.
Before doing this, we'd need to:
[ ] Update/reformalize the membership of our coordination committee.
[ ] Update our governance documentation (PLEP 1) to be more in line with our practices, and consistent with NumFOCUS requirements (need to double check what the requirements are).
