Did we set a date for meeting with Aaron?

marknelsonengineer commented 9 years ago

I think the consensus was that the meeting with Lee gave us a lot of material. I was going to meet with Aaron and get his feedback.

I’ll reach out to him first thing tomorrow — and I’ll let you know when it’s scheduled — so you can all attend if you want.

We agreed that we will solicit feedback for a total of 3 magicians. Also, we will post a question on 3 forums.

marknelsonengineer commented 9 years ago

Status: Aaron is MIA. I've asked Wayne Houchin and Steve Johnson for their time as Consulting Magicians.

marknelsonengineer commented 9 years ago

I've asked Steve for a 5:30 pm interview. His quote from our first discussion on this is: "This is absolutely cool. The only problem is that it's not available now."

Notes from meeting with Steve Johnson of http://www.grandillusions.com/:

Notes from Skype Meeting with Steve Johnson (consulting Magician) Monday, March 30th @ 5:30 PM HST

Owner of "Grand Illusions" in NorCal (Sacramento) http://www.grandillusions.com/ 30 years of experience in performing and selling Magic.

https://askalexander.org

No current personal database for storing and keeping track of materials. Do we want to add something where we would allow Magicians to track a so-called private "inventory"?

Due Diligence tool; we want to do attribution, but we don't have something that's requiring a magician to include this information.

Bill Kalush

Should be able to cross-reference search by Material. Which means we potentially need a material database (needs to be clean data, otherwise the search will suck).

Routine Page -- Credited Artist for the Routine; year of creation. Should have a Method section which allows this. The creator can choose to do this or not. "Flag routine" page, allows people to flag an item. Should be able to "hide" routine. Confidence in a given routine, need assistance with this on the Routine. Links into AskAlexander with information

Commenting system for the Routines. In addition, we should include some sort of methodology that allows you to do a review of someone else's quality of Routines.

Magician Page -- Should be able to hide information about yourself if you so desire. ToDo List Goal Tracking Progress on personal growth of Magicians.

User logs in, wants to build 25 minute act of 6 different effects.

Build a routine, add items, description, puts it in.

Online moderators curate content? Magic helpers? People who want to create this.

Finding other magicians online.

Help with Scripting for the Routine. This is the main thing about helping people to do scripting and acting for the Routine. Who do I want help from? Do I know how far we want to filter the people who are going to be viewing this?

Show the number of routines that a given user has shared.

\ We should add the expertise level of "writer".

Wayne Houchin http://www.waynehouchin.com replied and is willing to help. He's available on Wednesday and Thursday all day (Pacific Time). When would we be able to meet with him?

pkarjala commented 9 years ago

I am available tomorrow evening after 4:30 PM HST, but not on Thursday evening until about 7 PM HST.

davidkneely commented 9 years ago

I'm free to meet at 4:30pm HST on Wednesday. I am not available on Thursday.

marknelsonengineer commented 9 years ago

Wayne has confirmed for 4:30pm HST today via Skype.

pkarjala commented 9 years ago

Notes from Wayne Houchin feedback.

Wayne Houchin

Prof. Magician, creates magic, does performances, TV show on the discover channel

www.waynehouchin.com

Thinks that this is a great idea. Has been brainstorming ideas for TV, and having a DB of searching for similar or related "effects" or "routines" that fit that criteria. Being able to store and retrieve this.

Play With Magic We're Looking for a Few Good Routines

Looks great already, the aesthetics are clean and "very nice".

Related routines are VERY handy.

Ideas:

What does the person want the audience to feel? Amusement? Laugh? Funny? Astonished? Amazed? Scared? Shocked? What is the feel going to be for the audience during these routines? --- This would be a part of the routine

Method --- Categories of types (card, string, grand illusion, etc)

Time --- Average time to perform (sans patter or other additional things)

Angles --- Angles that are good and bad for the Routine --- Instead phrase it as "An effect can be performed fully surrounded / partially surrounded / specific viewing angle"

Volunteer or No Volunteer involvement / Audience Participation --- Should be a simple Binary value --- No of people if they are involved?

Venue --- This would come in according to the Set Builder

Materials --- Listed, where to find? Price? Basically how to find more difficult to procure items. --- -- Would this list be regional?

Video / Link to Video --- Would be external links to clips that show the routine, or embedding a video. +++ Milestone 2?

Sets --- Energy level; some are more intellectual, some are more exciting (blows up from the start), essentially creating the natural flow for the audience. Types of mixes: Visual (how it looks), Suspenseful, etc.

How do we break down how a show feels for the person?

Fluff information about a magician is good -- Specifically recommended reading list or books that they enjoy.

Why would people want to post routines on the site?

--- Make them want to be a part of the community --- Need to be able to get out and share what they've done in planning their sets. --- Metadata on why the Set was made the way that it was (info from user)

Is the site structured around a specific short list and have people add their own thoughts? Or do we structure it around a large number of different routines?

Is there a Copyleft / Creative Commons license for Routines? How is this done?

Being able to report routines that come up as being stolen / lifted / etc. Ripoff Poor Attribution Incomplete information Poorly described

Discussions on Routines and Sets --- How does this occur? Simple forum post? More? --- This brings the community INTO the site more. +++ This social aspect is attractive to users +++ Notifying users if there are updates to routines that they've followed.

Other Magicians who may be able to consult:

pkarjala commented 9 years ago

Follow up meeting notes with Steve Johnson on April 14th.

This is post original setup and Milestone 1.

Itinerary:

Thank Steve for his time on this project; essentially helped us ace this project.

Sets now exist. NOTE: Routines should not be CHECKBOXES, but should instead be numerical selection or entry instead.

Material: Is it borrowed? Is it switched? (not as important)

Check style for "sets" AKA: Intuitive set building

Two aspects: Show me what you recommend based on what I do (or don't) have in my current Set. Or, turn it off, and have it show me very specific types of filters, AKA a regular search engine.

Recommender engine for Routines that you "like" for similar Routines.

Feedback, reviews, and "gamification" Reviews, comment on reviews, and then rate the reviews or the comments. Badges based on participation inside of the website. This allows people to help out and become part of the community for the website. This incentivizes people to actually help. (no 1-5 stars imho, just up or down)

So if Gamification is either the way to do it or not. So let's just DO IT. Upvotes / down votes Reddit gold like functionality Either you should be able to do it when you get to the site. The way to do this is more along the lines of ranking based off a number of different factors, such as number of "likes" and number of "posts".

Do we want to be a review site, or to be a sharing site?

Nah, don't bother. Wait, let's think of this as implementation of a Routine, and how that person does a Routine. We're reviewing YOUR routine and the way YOU handle it. Don't review the product. Talk about your implementation of the routine.

The feedback that users will get from the site is very specific feedback.

So at this point do we want to focus less on everyone posting different versions of Routines? Or do we want the same Routine to be posted on by multiple different people?

In the end do we want to scrape across other sites that have a list of Routines, and then have people post their own renditions of the Routine? Why bother having people post their own Routines when they're likely something that already exists?

Limit the number of time people can ask for advice? (eh, i shy away from that).

Dariel Fitzkey (sp?) Only 12 different magic effects

Notes from meeting with Lee Asher on April 26th

Meeting with Lee Asher

Sunday April 26th

Navigation is well done.

Sets - The time is something that should be taken into consideration

Browse Sets: Does not include duration on the list at this time. Should be including the Set duration on the list.

Sets: Transitions, patter, timing, plot Is this something that should be included with the Set information? So do Sets need Transitions? Do we add this as part of the tracked information? Transitions need to occur in a Set Set Metadata

The Set "checkstyle" ++ What are the rules that should be used for Set checking?

Openers and Closers as the structure of a Set. Need to choose a specific Routine to do the Opener and the Closer.

Show an "ark" of the progress for the entire Set.

Set builder as a Tutorial for the user.

Shows ++ Combination of Sets, or "meta" Sets. ++ Shows as the meta-collection of Sets

Magician Information:

Find people with similar interests. Common set of principles. Needs to be more "social".

Routines as Renditions ++ Individual renditions of a Routine ++ Submit your own way of doing this particular Routine

Interface for Set Builder
