5 years ago I had the same issue, bypassed it by just switching to another step, but your suggestion sounds better.

5 years ago I had the same issue, bypassed it by just switching to another step, but your suggestion sounds better.
This is the one in Terokkar where you have to fight Empoor until his HP is low. He's friendly by default so you need to click his dialog option to turn him hostile and start the fight. Problem is, he's also the turn-in NPC for the quest so the auto turn-in function bypasses the page with the dialog option before you can click it. You need to turn off auto turn-in to complete the quest.
Maybe flag this quest as an escort so auto-turn in doesn't trigger?
