While as of now it looks as an overkill (pipeline performance considerations demand one master every second host), it might not be out of place to allow the option. Currently one of the implementation showstoppers is that all messengers created for a given set of master and slaves have fixed port numbers. To extend, the port numbers could be computed from additional unique information, such as the mount number.
