Compiling and Linking Boost.Thread 1.44 with Alembic #350

Hi, I'm trying to compile the Alembic library and examples using the
alembic_bootstrap.py script on a Fedora 20 VM. I have been able to compile
static versions of ilmbase, openEXR and the other Alembic dependencies, but not
for the Boost 1.44 threading library. This is apparently because versions of
GCC newer than 4.6 have explicitly disabled boost.thread.

I am reluctant to try to build GCC 4.6 from scratch, and I am wondering if any
of you have some suggestions or workarounds for this issue - i.e. linking
against a different version of boost.

Thanks for your help,

Alexander Gosselin
