Will you create a Fabric version at some point in the future? #90

It would be a great addition to already so many performance saving mods.

Also as an additional comment, fp2 is not meant as a performance mod, and is instead meant to extend render distance

SirPytan commented 3 years ago

Ok, yes, I mean if you reduce the render distance to 4 chunks and use the LODs for the rest you basically save performance for something else, indirectly.

SirPytan commented 3 years ago

And if it is compatible with Iris and Sodium and other Performance improving mods, like Starlight, Lithium and so on, that would be great. I saw the video from a YouTuber online in the past and I was amazed, I hope you find some people to help you with this mod and that it will be available at some point for the newest Minecraft and Fabric Version.

DaMatrix commented 3 years ago

Ii you reduce the render distance to 4 chunks, you're using it wrong. fp2 is intended to work alongside vanilla rendering, not replace it, and it is not a performance mod, despite what the idiotic youtubers may try to tell you in a desperate bid to get views. the idea is not to make the game run faster, the idea is that you're taking a 50% performance hit in order to extend your render distance by multiple thousand times.

ghost commented 3 years ago

Yes it can work alongside vanilla rendering, but still be a big performance boost. I would love to play on 64 render distance but this is just impossible right now because of the lag I get. With this mod I can set the normal render distance to like 20 and have the rest rendered by this mod. Perhaps it's not "technically" a performance mod, but the result is the same: Same render distance, better performance.

SirPytan commented 3 years ago

@DerpNerb Exactly. And if you add a bunch of mods, that reduce the possible render distance as well, then it is good if you can reduce the normal render distance to like 10 or 8, but still see the rest beyond that in a good enough quality.

DaMatrix commented 3 years ago

sure, you can do that and that's great! however, it's not the problem i'm trying to solve, and therefore isn't a use case i will officially support. basically, if at some point i discover something which greatly benefits extreme render distances, but hurts people who were using FP2 as a performance mod, i will implement it immediately with no regard for the "performance mod" people. that said, feel free to use it as a performance mod if you like - i just don't want people branding it as one, because it isn't and doesn't try to be.
